Technical Program Manager Intern

Company Overview Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems. We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale. And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance. We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment. Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers. Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world. Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company. With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale. Join us in building the power foundation of the future! About Amperesand Amperesand is building next-generation power infrastructure systems for Data Centers, EV charging platforms, and future energy applications. Our systems combine advanced power electronics, embedded controls, and scalable energy architectures to rethink how power is converted, controlled, and deployed. About the Role As a Technical Program Manager Intern, you will help plan, coordinate, and track the development of advanced power infrastructure products, including medium-voltage Solid State Transformer systems. This internship offers hands-on exposure to how complex hardware programs are run, with an emphasis on design change management, cross-functional coordination, and executive reporting. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and leadership teams. Under the guidance of experienced program managers, you'll contribute through program tracking, process execution, data analysis, and communication. What You’ll Do • Support end-to-end execution of the design change management process, including intake, impact assessment, approvals, release, and closure. • Coordinate change reviews across hardware, firmware, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams. • Help maintain accurate BOMs, design revisions, and engineering records in Enovia • Analyze the cost impact of design changes, including rework, scrap, and schedule delays, to inform engineering and leadership decisions. • Track program schedules, milestones, dependencies, and risks across hardware development programs. • Build and maintain executive dashboards covering program health, change cycle time, and milestone status. • Develop supplier scorecards tracking lead time, on-time delivery, and quality performance for key vendors. • Support prototype build coordination, including parts readiness, build schedules, and test readiness. • Prepare concise status updates, meeting notes, and action item tracking for program reviews. • Identify process gaps and help create templates, checklists, and documentation that improve how teams work together. What You’ll Bring • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related technical discipline. • Ability to understand technical concepts and engineering tradeoffs. • Strong organizational skills and consistent follow-through. • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to summarize technical topics for leadership. Preferred: • Experience with project tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or MS Project. • Exposure to dashboard or analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or Python. • Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems, BOMs, or configuration management. • Leadership roles in student engineering teams (e.g., Formula SAE, robotics, solar car). • Interest in power electronics, energy infrastructure, or hardware manufacturing. What You Will Learn: • How complex hardware programs are planned, tracked, and delivered. • Practical design change management and configuration control in a fast-moving hardware environment. • How engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams work together to bring products to market. • Building data-driven reporting that supports executive decision-making. • Industry best practices for program execution, risk management, and documentation. Working Model Employment Type: • Internship Location: Reno Work Model: • Onsite Onsite Collaboration Rationale: Given the highly collaborative and cross-functional nature of hardware, embedded systems, and product development, in-person partnership across engineering and product teams is critical to enabling rapid execution, technical alignment, and successful development outcomes. Why Join Amperesand • Work on next-generation power infrastructure systems • High ownership and visibility • Cross-functional collaboration • Opportunity to shape future products and infrastructure • Fast-moving startup environment Candidate Confidentiality & Information Protection As part of our commitment to protecting confidential and proprietary information, candidates should not disclose or provide Amperesand with any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to a current or former employer or any other third party during the application or interview process.
