Staff Software Engineer

Company Overview Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems. We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale. And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance. We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment. Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers. Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world. Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company. With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale. Join us in building the power foundation of the future! About Amperesand Amperesand is building next-generation power infrastructure systems for Data Centers, EV charging platforms, and future energy applications. Our systems combine advanced power electronics, embedded controls, and scalable energy architectures to rethink how power is converted, controlled, and deployed. About the Role At Amperesand, you will lead the design and development of a scalable, robust distributed test framework in Golang that automates test systems across our labs and manufacturing lines, accelerating prototype validation and ramping high-volume production. You'll own the technical direction of our test software, set engineering standards, and mentor the team. Your hardware background lets you design efficient, accurate test systems for our Solid State Transformer and integrate them with manufacturing systems. What You'll Do • Architect a highly scalable, modular test framework in Golang to test high-voltage power electronics, thermal systems, and more, spanning lab validation, regression testing, and production. • Drive end-to-end test software development from design through deployment and post-deployment improvements, building in ease of validation and maintenance. • Integrate test systems with MES and other databases to enable traceability and closed-loop feedback between test results and production. • Innovate test system design by collaborating with electrical, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing teams, and provide feedback to improve product quality. • Lead and mentor the software team: establish development standards, foster a strong code review culture, and drive adoption across the team. • Participate hands-on in test hardware bring-up, system debugging, and optimization to meet accuracy, cycle time, and throughput targets. • Travel to facilities worldwide to collaborate with teams and deploy our solutions. What You'll Bring • BS or MS in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience. • 6+ years designing and building scalable software for distributed systems, with demonstrated technical leadership on complex projects. • Deep expertise in system-level languages (Golang, Rust, C, C++, etc.) with excellent software fundamentals: architectural design, algorithms, data structures, modularity, and maintainability. • Strong command of concurrency, asynchronous programming, and distributed systems to meet strict cycle-time requirements and maximize throughput. • Experience ingesting high-volume data for real-time decision-making, and with both relational and non-relational databases. • Strong hardware background: experience with electrical hardware, microcontrollers, and communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, etc.), sufficient to design efficient, accurate test systems. • Experience working with Linux. • Proven ability to mentor engineers, build team depth, and drive adoption of engineering standards. • Engaged, proactive, and positive in owning challenging work and taking accountability for team success. Working Model Employment Type: • Full-time Location: San Francisco/Sunnyvale / Reno Work Model: • Onsite Onsite Collaboration Rationale: Given the highly collaborative and cross-functional nature of hardware, embedded systems, and product development, in-person partnership across engineering and product teams is critical to enabling rapid execution, technical alignment, and successful development outcomes. Why Join Amperesand • • Work on next-generation power infrastructure systems • High ownership and visibility • Cross-functional collaboration • Opportunity to shape future products and infrastructure • Fast-moving startup environment Candidate Confidentiality & Information Protection As part of our commitment to protecting confidential and proprietary information, candidates should not disclose or provide Amperesand with any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to a current or former employer or any other third party during the application or interview process.
