Senior Manager - System Electronics

Company Overview Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems. We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale. And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance. We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment. Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers. Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world. Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company. With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale. Join us in building the power foundation of the future! About Amperesand Amperesand is building next-generation power infrastructure systems for Data Centers, EV charging platforms, and future energy applications. Our systems combine advanced power electronics, embedded controls, and scalable energy architectures to rethink how power is converted, controlled, and deployed. About the Role Role Summary At Amperesand, the System Electronics leader owns the system-level electronics architecture of our Solid-State Transformer (SST) products. You will lead a team of design engineers who architect and develop the low-voltage and mixed-signal control, sensing, safety systems, and auxiliary power converters. You own how these subsystems are partitioned, how they interface across voltage domains, and how they come together into designs that are safe, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective across prototype, pre-production, and volume production. You will partner closely with the program management team and cross-functional teams to bring rigor, speed, and architectural clarity to everything we ship. What You’ll Do Responsibilities • Own the end-to-end system-level electronics architecture for SST products. • Define the low-voltage and mixed-signal architecture for control, sensing, and protection, ensuring measurement chains, fault detection, and communication interfaces meet performance and safety targets. • Set architectural direction across the system: functional partitioning, interface definition, voltage-domain isolation, grounding, protection, redundancy, and fault tolerance to meet single-fault-tolerant and product-lifetime requirements. • Define the 800V power architecture and set direction on auxiliary power converter architecture: topology strategy, power budgeting, isolation, and integration with the SST power stage. • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of design engineers. Provide technical guidance while empowering engineers to own their domains. • Drive requirements decomposition, interface control, and architecture reviews (including DFMEA, derating, and trade studies) that balance performance, reliability, safety, cost, and manufacturability. • Own the electronics roadmap across multiple product generations. • Collaborate closely with firmware, controls, mechanical and test engineering teams. Drive product improvements from first principles. • Support EMC compliance, functional safety, and safety certification at the system level, and champion documentation, traceability, and standards that scale with the company. • Establish frameworks for architecture definition, requirements decomposition, and design review that bring consistency and speed to the electronics organization. What You’ll Bring • BS, MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. • 10+ years of engineering experience in electronics or power electronics hardware development, with at least 4 years in a people-leadership role managing technical teams. • Strong background in system-level electronics architecture for high-voltage, high-power conversion products, with the breadth to lead across both low-voltage/mixed-signal design and power conversion. Technical Skills • Solid understanding of AC-DC and DC-DC converter topologies and auxiliary supplies, and how power stages integrate with control, sensing, and protection electronics. • Working knowledge of isolation and interface design across voltage domains, high-voltage design practices, protection and fault-tolerance strategies, and functional safety concepts. • Proven track record architecting and delivering electronics products from prototype through volume production. Working Model Employment Type: • Full-time Location: Reno Work Model: • Onsite Onsite Collaboration Rationale: Given the highly collaborative and cross-functional nature of hardware, embedded systems, and product development, in-person partnership across engineering and product teams is critical to enabling rapid execution, technical alignment, and successful development outcomes. Why Join Amperesand • • Work on next-generation power infrastructure systems • High ownership and visibility • Cross-functional collaboration • Opportunity to shape future products and infrastructure • Fast-moving startup environment Candidate Confidentiality & Information Protection As part of our commitment to protecting confidential and proprietary information, candidates should not disclose or provide Amperesand with any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to a current or former employer or any other third party during the application or interview process.
