Senior Data Center Technician, Madrid

At Verda, we're building a full-stack AI cloud, covering everything from data centers and hardware to our own cloud platform that the world's leading AI teams use to do serious AI work. We strive to make a positive mark on the world through the infrastructure we build and give leading teams a service they can truly depend on. Headquartered in Helsinki, we operate globally with offices in London and San Francisco. Join Verda while it’s still being built - not once it’s finished. WHY VERDA - Cash and equity compensation along with local benefits. - 40+ nationalities, with 6 different ones on the management team. - A real chance to make an impact and work alongside world class engineers, researchers, and partners across the global AI ecosystem. PRACTICALITIES - Work mode: On-site, 8-hour shift rotation covering 24/7 operations - Level: Senior - Employment type: Full time and permanent ABOUT THE ROLE Our sites run high-density GPU infrastructure around the clock, and we need a senior technician who can handle the most demanding hardware work on site. This is a hands-on individual contributor role in the shift team. You'll be the person the team turns to for the complex jobs: GPU server installs, tricky diagnostics, repairs others can't crack, and clean, high-quality network cabling at scale. You'll also set the standard for how work gets done on site, writing the procedures the team runs on and helping less experienced technicians grow in the day to day work. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES - Install, configure, and maintain GPU servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and structured cabling, including high-density and liquid-cooled deployments. - Diagnose and repair complex hardware faults on enterprise GPU servers, covering component-level troubleshooting, RMA handling, and root-cause analysis. - Perform rack and stack, copper and fibre cabling, and hardware refresh work to a high quality standard. - Troubleshoot link-level network faults, from cable and transceiver testing through to isolating the failure, including fibre optics work for switch integration. - Monitor data center environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and power, and respond to alerts during your shifts. - Contribute hands-on to build-outs, migrations, and refresh projects as the site grows. - Write and improve the SOPs and procedures the site runs on, and mentor junior and mid-level technicians on the shift team. YOUR KEY COMPETENCIES We're looking for someone who is hands-on and knows the industry and the hardware in it well. They work without close supervision, find a route through unfamiliar problems, and have an appetite for mentoring and building procedures from scratch. - 3+ years of progressive data center or IT infrastructure experience, with significant hands-on hardware time. - Strong hardware competency: break/fix, component replacement (drives, fans, PSUs, motherboards, CPUs), and rack and stack to a high quality standard. - Strong diagnostic skills. You can isolate faults across compute, cabling, and network links without a script to follow. - Hands-on copper and fibre cabling and fibre optics work, with a solid understanding of how a network link works. Device configuration is not expected. - Ability and willingness to work on-site. - Comfortable with ambiguity and a broad scope of work. NICE TO HAVE - Experience with liquid cooling, including DLC loops and maintenance of liquid cooling solutions. We currently value this as highly as GPU experience. - Hands-on experience with enterprise GPU servers (NVIDIA Ampere, Hopper, or Blackwell generations) and switch integration work. - Experience with large cluster deployments or data hall build-outs as a hands-on technician.
