Manager, Software Development - Onboarding Team

About AlayaCare At AlayaCare, we’re more than just a fast-growing SaaS company, we’re a team of people passionate about transforming home healthcare. Our cloud-based platform empowers care providers around the world to deliver better outcomes for their clients. With 550+ employees across Canada, the US, Australia, and Brazil, we’re united by a shared mission and a strong culture of transparency, growth, and human connection. Whether you're early in your career or a seasoned expert, AlayaCare offers the opportunity to grow your impact, your skills, and your career. About the Role We are seeking a Manager, Software Development to join one of our Product teams. Reporting to the Associate Director, you will cultivate a strong team identity with personalized coaching and mentoring. Depending on your strengths and where we need you most, this could be a product team delivering customer-facing capabilities in areas such as scheduling, clinical documentation, or billing, or a platform team building the shared services, tooling, and foundations that every product team depends on. You will be responsible for driving both technical excellence and team development, helping AlayaCare scale its product offerings while maintaining a high standard of reliability, performance, and impact for our customers — and for raising the bar on how effectively your team builds with AI. As a Manager, Software Development you will cultivate a strong team identity while coaching and mentoring each team member. The team will work directly on the systems that power how new customers come on board, making onboarding faster, reducing manual effort, and ultimately improving the experience for both internal teams and customers. Expect a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of purpose, where your contributions will directly cut the time and cost it takes to bring new customers into the fold, and shape how the company scales. Join us in building the next generation of admin tooling that powers efficient, seamless customer onboarding. AlayaCare Product teams operates AI-first. AI assistance is the way we specify, build, test, review, and operate software, with humans clearly accountable for correctness, quality, and risk. What You’ll Do People Leadership & Team Development • Hire, coach, and retain top engineering talent, setting clear expectations and providing frequent, actionable feedback. • Foster a high-trust culture of ownership, accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning. • Conduct performance assessments and drive career development for team members, using a balanced view of impact — quality, reliability, and outcomes alongside delivery throughput — rather than raw output counts. • Coach engineers at every level on effective and responsible AI-assisted development and raise the floor for anyone who is not yet getting leverage from it. Technical & Operational Excellence • Own the software delivery lifecycle end-to-end for your team, from technical design to deployment and operations. • Lead by example in engineering standards, technical decisions, operational best practices, and quality ownership. Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering leaders to deliver solutions that are performant, secure, and scalable. • Own the responsibility for quality regarding your team's deliverables, including test coverage appropriate to risk, safe rollout and rollback, and clear ownership of production behavior. • Drive innovation, simplification, and technical excellence within your team, providing hands-on guidance when needed. You will not be the most senior technologist on the team, but you are expected to be technical enough to challenge designs, review changes meaningfully, and judge risk. AI-Accelerated Delivery • Make AI-first the default in your team's day-to-day workflow — specification, design, implementation, testing, code review, documentation, and production investigation — rather than an optional accelerator a few engineers use. • Establish and enforce the guardrails that make this safe: clear human accountability for every change, validation proportionate to risk, meaningful tests, and heightened scrutiny of AI-generated code in security, data, and core business logic. • Codify what works. Turn recurring patterns into reusable rules, prompts, and team standards so improvements compound instead of staying in one person's head. • Use engineering efficiency data to find where the team is stuck — low adoption, wasted effort, oversized changes, review bottlenecks — and act on it in planning and one-on-ones. • Identify where AI meaningfully reduces toil in your area (test generation, documentation, escalation triage, investigation) and drive those improvements to a measurable result. • Support your team's AI Champion and contribute to the engineering-wide AI practice through knowledge sharing and hands-on sessions. Product and Project Ownership • Define, prioritize, and execute the team’s roadmap in collaboration with Product Managers. • Deliver impactful features with a strong focus on customer needs and operational excellence. • Use data and metrics to measure progress, inform decisions, and drive continuous improvement. • Protect capacity for engineering health — refactors, upgrades, resilience, performance, and test automation — and make the case for it credibly with Product. Technical Direction • Identify technical opportunities and risks in your team's area and work proactively to address them. • Drive innovation and experimentation, encouraging the team to explore and improve how we deliver care through software. • Partner with Staff+ engineers and neighbouring teams to keep interfaces, contracts, and technical decisions aligned as the platform evolves. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Partner effectively with Customer Success, Support, and other internal stakeholders to resolve complex customer challenges and escalations. • Act as the technical point of contact for your team's area, balancing business needs with technical feasibility. What You Bring to the Team • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields. • 7+ years of hands-on experience with software development. • 3+ years of people management experience in a technical industry, including strong cross-functional leadership and organizational skills. • Experience building large-scale iOS and/or Android applications; familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS environments is a strong asset. • Strong knowledge of AI-assisted development practices combined with a proactive approach to keeping pace with advancements and guiding teams in adopting them thoughtfully and effectively • Experience in implementing Scrum/Agile practices with software development teams. • You enjoyed an experience with start-ups or scale-ups. • Experience with AlayaCare’s stack (Python, PHP, Vue.JS, AWS). • Strong knowledge of contemporary software development practices, and opinions on how to best implement them. • Experience in healthcare, home health, or medical devices is an asset. • Bilingual in French and English is an asset Why Join AlayaCare? Work With Purpose At AlayaCare, you’ll help build technology that empowers care providers and improves outcomes for patients and families. Grow in a High-Trust Culture We believe in transparency, feedback, and assuming positive intent. Here, you’ll feel safe to share your ideas and career goals, and be supported to achieve them through mentorship, career mobility, and a promote-from-within philosophy.
