Ortet is a founding-stage company in New York City, and we work in person. You will join as one of the first members of a small, high-impact team and build Ortet together with us. ABOUT THE ROLE The Head of Talent builds the team behind Ortet and helps it thrive. You own the core organizational problem of the company: how to bring the right people together, at the right pace, and help them do their best work, so that Ortet can deliver predictably better care for everyone. The scope spans hiring, onboarding, compensation, employee relations, and culture across Intelligence Infrastructure, Frontier Research, Translation & Deployment, and Operational Support. Your work will compound: every person you bring in and support shapes what Ortet builds, and results are measured in the team we become. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Run hiring for every team, from sourcing to close, in partnership with hiring leads - Own the recruiting process and tools, recruiting firms, referrals, and outreach - Design onboarding, performance, and growth processes that fit a flat, fast-moving team - Run people ops with the PEO and outside counsel (comp, equity, benefits, leave, visas) - Be the first point of contact on people matters, including hard ones - Protect and grow the culture as Ortet scales WHAT WE LOOK FOR Required: - A track record of building teams from scratch, as a founder, an operator, or a people leader - Hands-on experience hiring and closing across functions, from researchers and engineers to operations and business roles - The ability to find and win exceptional people whose ambitions align with Ortet's mission, with a clear view of what top AI talent values in a company - Experience supporting people through hard situations, with sound judgment and discretion, and the trust of both founders and team members - Fluency in running people operations with AI agents and automation, and the drive to build the people function the same way Ortet builds everything else Nice to have: - Experience with visa and immigration processes for international talent (H-1B, O-1, green cards) - A network in the ML/AI research community - Experience in health, biotech, or other regulated industries - Experience with US employment practice, equity plans, and benefits design WHAT WE OFFER Competitive salary and meaningful equity.
