Founding Product Manager

Founding Product Manager Product • New York, New York • Full time • On-site Base Pay: $200K to $300K | Offers Equity ABOUT SANDSTONE Sandstone is on a mission to elevate in-house legal from a support function into a true strategic partner. From day one, we've been clear about what we are—and are not. We are not replacing in-house legal teams. We are building a platform that amplifies them. Our platform enables modern legal teams to move at the speed of AI, deliver better outcomes, and create measurable business value. We unify legal data, power end-to-end workflows, and organize business context within the tools teams already use. Sandstone is the home for AI-native legal departments. Today, Sandstone is trusted by Fortune 500 companies and fast-growing innovators alike. We ship quickly, iterate relentlessly, and scale with intention. When you join Sandstone, you become part of a team that believes deeply in the compounding power of collaboration, rigorous problem-solving, and obsessive attention to detail. Our engineering team is elite, our lawyers ship code every day, and we are dedicated to building the most delightful product an in-house lawyer opens in the morning—and closes at the end of the day. We work five days a week out of our offices in the Lower East Side. Dogs welcome; shoes optional; chess encouraged. ABOUT THE ROLE We need a Founding Product Manager to help us realize our vision: a single pane of glass for in-house legal teams for legal work and institutional knowledge. We already have a team of cracked engineers, preeminent lawyers, and world-class designers; now what we need is a disciplined, rigorous product manager who can help bring the pieces together. We pride ourselves on executing strong ideas faster than any organization in the world - this is a role for folks who roll up their sleeves, get dirty, and get shit done. As our team matures and grows, we want to build our capacities for user experience research, cross-functional communication, scoping, and risk mitigation - that’s where you’ll come in. We need your help to remain laser-focused on the actual workflow journeys of our end users and find the chokeholds that endanger our continued user growth. As part of this role, you’ll own a product vertical; you’ll also play an integral role on our product leadership team. In addition, you may lead customer enterprise deployments and/or a set of integrations. To be successful in this role, you will be someone who thrives working in an early-stage, green field environment with a high degree of autonomy. You will collaborate closely with Liam Germain (CTO, Co-founder), Jarryd Strydom (COO, Co-founder), and engineers who care deeply about building a novel user experience. You will also help create and distill Sandstone’s product culture, processes, and systems. “Ship relentlessly” is a core value of our team: we are all builders, and we expect you will be, too. WHAT YOU'LL OWN - Own the product roadmap for one of our verticals: decide what to build, prioritize ruthlessly, and ship continuously - Set product feature timelines and team goals aggressively but pragmatically: scope feature sets thoughtfully and mitigate risks where practicable - As a member of our product leadership team, help decide the future of our product roadmap and how Product works at Sandstone: how we prioritize, how we write things down, how we decide. - Move fast on two-way doors and ship to learn. For irreversible decisions, map the scenarios, pressure-test the paths, and make the tradeoffs explicit before we commit. Both modes, deliberately chosen. - Partner with our AI & ML engineers to define what "great" looks like for agentic workflows: accuracy, reliability, latency, and the moments where a lawyer needs to stay in the loop. Help decide what we measure and hold the product to it. - Spend time with General Counsels, legal ops leaders, and the day-to-day users inside their teams. Sit in on sales and post-sales calls. Study how our end users work in real life, and turn that into the next set of priorities - Work closely with Engineering, Design, our Forward-Deployed Engineers, and GTM teams; make sure the right hand knows what the left hand is doing WHAT YOU'LL BRING - 6+ years in product management, ideally including time at an early-stage, high-growth startup—ideally one you helped carry through a step change in size. - A track record of shipping 0-to-1 products and then scaling them, with outcomes you can point to. - The ability to earn the trust of strong engineers—by being useful, by being right often, and by knowing which projects don't need you. - Comfort managing complex systems, mapping genuinely complex workflows and translating them into products that feel simple. - You have a demonstrated track record of entrepreneurship or of success in an unstructured environment - you’re hungry, low ego, and generative. - You have the empathy to understand what a customer is feeling and the emotional intelligence to know what would feel natural to them. BONUS - Experience in legal tech, legal operations, or building products used by in-house legal teams. - Technical enough to prototype, read a PR, or stress-test an approach with engineering before it becomes a spec. WORKING AT SANDSTONE: BENEFITS & PERKS - Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance; HSA available depending on plan selection; 401K - 12 weeks paid parental leave - Flexible time off (20+ days PTO) - Annual learning & development stipend - Technology stipend, including unlimited spend on AI tooling - Daily lunch for in-office team members At Sandstone, we value high ownership, flexibility, and curiosity. You'll have an outsized impact, work closely with ambitious colleagues, and help transform how legal teams work for the modern age.
