Senior Security Engineer, Red Team

About Nscale Nscale is the GPU cloud engineered for AI. We provide cost-effective, high-performance infrastructure for AI start-ups and large enterprise customers. Nscale enables AI-focused companies to achieve superior results by reducing the complexity of AI development. Our GPU cloud bolsters technical capabilities and directly supports strategic business outcomes, including cost management, rapid innovation, and environmental responsibility. We thrive on a culture of relentless innovation, ownership, and accountability, where every team member takes pride in their work and drives it with excellence and urgency. As an Nscaler, you’ll build trust through openness and transparency, where everyone is inspired to do their best work. If you join our team, you’ll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future. About the Role We're hiring a Senior Security Engineer to join Nscale's Red Team, part of the global CISO organisation. Working closely with the Red Team Lead and your teammates, you'll deliver offensive security campaigns across cloud, infrastructure, enterprise environments, identity systems, endpoints, and applications. A core part of this role is using AI to change how red teaming gets done. You'll work with frontier and cyber-gated models from providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI, agentic tools such as Claude Code, ChatGPT, and OpenCode, and open-weight models. You'll build workflows that accelerate reconnaissance, vulnerability discovery, exploit development, attack-path analysis, and reporting, choosing models to balance quality, cost, and speed. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role. You'll contribute to several campaigns in parallel, own your workstreams end to end, and partner with Detection & Response and Security Engineering to turn findings into measurable improvements. What you'll be doing Red team campaigns • Plan and execute red team campaigns and adversary simulations with the Red Team Lead and your teammates. • Own scope, timelines, evidence, and reporting for your workstreams across multiple campaigns. • Emulate real-world attacker behaviour, including initial access, lateral movement, privilege escalation, and persistence, to identify weaknesses across infrastructure, identity systems, endpoints, and applications. AI-enabled red teaming • Build agentic workflows that orchestrate multiple models and tools to accelerate offensive security work. • Evaluate new models and tooling, including open-weight models where hosted models aren't the right fit, and integrate those that improve team throughput. • Build guardrails, logging, and human review steps to keep model-driven activity within scope and rules of engagement. Offensive testing and tooling • Perform penetration testing across applications, APIs, identity systems, and internal services. • Develop and maintain offensive tools, scripts, and supporting infrastructure, increasingly model-driven. • Apply modern offensive tools and frameworks, and share tooling, techniques, and playbooks so improvements benefit the whole team. Detection validation and security improvement • Identify gaps in preventive controls, detection coverage, and response capabilities. • Partner with Detection & Response to validate and improve detection logic and alerting, including through purple team exercises. • Collaborate with Security Engineering to remediate vulnerabilities and strengthen system design. • Document risk, impact, and remediation clearly, and communicate attack paths in a way that supports prioritisation and action. • Peer-review findings and reports, pair on complex attack paths, and contribute evidence-based recommendations to the team's roadmap. KPIs • On-time delivery of red team campaigns, including parallel campaigns • Detection and alerting gaps identified and validated • Vulnerabilities remediated in partnership with Security Engineering • Team adoption of agentic workflows and automations, and time saved on red team tasks About You • 5+ years of experience in red teaming, offensive security, or penetration testing. • Proven experience conducting adversary simulations and complex attack chains. • Hands-on experience applying large language models to offensive security work, including experience with cyber-gated models. • Experience building agentic workflows that orchestrate multiple models and tools, with sound judgement on model selection to balance quality and cost. • Strong expertise across network, application, cloud, and identity security, with experience working in cloud environments and modern infrastructure. • Deep understanding of MITRE ATT&CK and attacker methodologies, and hands-on experience with offensive tools and frameworks. • Ability to own and deliver workstreams across several campaigns with limited supervision. • Comfort pairing with teammates, giving and receiving review, and handing off work cleanly across campaigns. Nice to have • Experience in AI infrastructure or distributed systems environments. • Experience evaluating model capability for cyber tasks or securing agentic systems against prompt injection and tool misuse. • Familiarity with identity-based attacks, Kubernetes, containers, GPU-based infrastructure, purple teaming, detection engineering collaboration, or AI/ML system security testing. What we can offer you At Nscale, you'll find a collaborative, supportive, and innovative environment where your contributions spark real impact. We're building something extraordinary, and we want you at the core. • Highly competitive US compensation package (base + bonus + equity), with performance reviews every 12 months. 🚀 • Join one of the fastest-growing AI infrastructure companies — your chance to directly shape how global AI capacity is planned and deployed. ✨ • Expect a dynamic progression plan tailored to your ambitions.
