About the role
Who we are
Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.
Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.
Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.
This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.
We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.
If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.
What you'll do
• Help build the Strategic Finance function supporting Picnic, partnering closely with the Head of Strategic Finance and business leaders to strengthen its financial foundation and shape its next stage of growth.
• Own and continuously improve Picnic’s financial model, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning, developing a deep understanding of the business’s operational and financial drivers.
• Build management reporting and KPI frameworks that provide a clear, forward-looking view of performance, explain variances, and identify actions, while partnering with Accounting to ensure actuals are accurate and appropriately reflected.
• Lead headcount and operating expense planning, helping functional leaders connect resource allocation decisions to company priorities and expected returns.
• Evaluate strategic opportunities across growth, pricing, unit economics, cost optimization, market expansion, product development, and business model innovation, and partner with Corporate Development on relevant investment, partnership, and acquisition opportunities.
• Conduct market sizing, competitive intelligence, and industry research to assess Picnic’s market position, deepen leadership’s understanding of the competitive landscape, and identify new opportunities.
• Take on increasingly broad and complex strategic responsibilities as you deepen your understanding of the business and earn the trust of its leaders.
What we're looking for
• Approximately 4 to 6 years of experience in a highly analytical environment, such as investment banking, private equity, growth equity, venture capital, a family office, hedge fund, or management consulting.
• Exceptional financial modeling skills and the ability to build clear, accurate, and flexible models from the ground up.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving ability, including the capacity to structure ambiguous questions, identify key drivers, and translate analysis into actionable recommendations.
• The ability to move fluidly between detailed execution and big-picture thinking, combining exceptional attention to detail with sound business judgment.
• A high degree of ownership, independent judgment, and bias toward action, with the ability to form a point of view and drive work forward in a fast-moving environment with incomplete information.
• Clear, concise communication and a low-ego, team-first mindset, with a willingness to seek feedback, collaborate generously, and do what is needed to help the team succeed.
• Intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic, and the ambition to continually improve your capabilities, deepen your understanding of the business, and take on greater responsibility over time.
• Interest in joining an in-person, highly collaborative team based in New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.
• We encourage and expect thoughtful use of AI. AI can be a powerful tool for research, structuring analyses, brainstorming, and improving efficiency, but it is not a substitute for judgment, strategic thinking, or financial reasoning. The strongest candidates will use AI as a thought partner to enhance their thinking while maintaining full ownership and mastery of their work.
