Head of Sales, Citymapper Ads

At Citymapper (a Via company), we’re on a mission to help make complex cities more accessible to everyday users. Our application transports millions of people in hundreds of cities around the world by giving them access to the most current and sophisticated transportation options available. As Head of Sales at Via, you will scale Citymapper's advertising business into a global force by deepening the company's presence in both direct and programmatic ecosystems across its core markets. This is a true player/coach role: you'll lead and grow a lean sales team while staying personally close to the most important deals, clients, and markets. It's a rare opportunity to operate with startup autonomy inside a company that moves millions of people every day, with real ownership over a business that's already found its footing and is ready for its next phase of growth. About the Role: • Own end-to-end commercial strategy for Citymapper Ads across the UK, France, and the US: from identifying the highest-value prospects to closing and growing tier-one media buyer relationships • Build and deepen Citymapper's presence in both direct and programmatic buying ecosystems, including managing agency and brand partnerships, reseller networks, and SSP relationships • Lead, coach, and grow a lean sales and account management team. You will set the bar for what great looks like, while staying personally close to the most complex deals and senior client relationships • Step in wherever the business needs you: whether that's troubleshooting a campaign, covering an account, or rolling up your sleeves on ad ops, you see no task as beneath your role • Translate market signals and customer feedback into actionable product insights, acting as the commercial voice in cross-functional conversations with product and engineering • Design and execute comprehensive sales strategies that identify new revenue opportunities, build direct relationships with agencies and brands, and consistently exceed targets across core markets About You: • 8+ years of experience in digital media sales or ad tech leadership, with deep fluency in both direct brand/agency sales and programmatic ecosystems (SSPs); French language skills are a strong plus • Established network across agency and brand contacts in the UK, US, and ideally France, with demonstrated success managing the full business development cycle from sourcing through close and consistently exceeding revenue targets • Comfortable owning forecasting and commercial reporting, with a track record of translating pipeline data into accurate projections and clear strategic recommendations • A genuine player/coach: you lead from the front, set high standards, and are equally comfortable running a high-stakes pitch and jumping into a campaign operations issue when the team needs it • A self-starter who thrives in fast-moving, ambiguous environments — highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple priorities without losing momentum or dropping the ball • A strong communicator and collaborator who builds trust quickly across geographies, functions, and seniority levels What We Offer: • Becoming part of a company that was awarded for its commitment to social good • The chance to work alongside our award-winning ads team -nominated for multiple industry awards including DRUM, Campaign, and AOP, most recently winning the AOP Publishing Innovation Award for our In-Journey Video Ads • Competitive compensation including equity • A hybrid working model and a spacious office near Chancery Lane, where you can enjoy weekly team lunches • Comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid parental leave, and health scheme offered through AXA • Partnership with YellowNest, a salary exchange benefit that helps reduce childcare fees for working parents • Cycle to Work Scheme - multiple options via Green Commute Initiative (GCI) There has never been a more exciting time to be on the cutting edge of public mobility.
