Senior Data Analyst - Last Mile

Relay is fundamentally reshaping how goods move in an online era. Backed by Europe’s largest-ever logistics Series A ($35M) led by deep-tech investors Plural, and a recently closed Series B ($95M), Relay is scaling faster than 99% of venture-backed startups. We're assembling the most talent-dense team the logistics industry has ever seen Relay’s Mission is to free commerce from friction. Today, high delivery costs act as a hidden tax on e-commerce, quietly shaping what can be sold online and limiting who can participate. We envision a world where more goods move more freely between more people, making the online shopping experience seamless and accessible to everyone. THE TEAM • ~160 people, around half in engineering, product and data • 45+ advanced degrees across computer science, mathematics and operations research • Thousands of data points captured, calculated, analysed and predicted for every single parcel we handle • An intellectually vibrant culture of first‑principles thinking, tight feedback loops and relentless experimentation The Opportunity Relay’s Last Mile network runs on couriers - tens of thousands of them, doing real work in the physical world every day. Whether each parcel gets delivered successfully depends on the decisions and behaviours of the courier on route. We're hiring for a Senior Data Analyst to own how Relay measures and improves courier excellence: how we shape what happens on the doorstep, and how we manage performance before and after that interaction. This role works with the whole of the Last Mile team and partners closely with data scientists, engineers and operators across the squad. There's a v1 of performance management already running; you'll own its evolution into something materially better. Last Mile Handover Optimisation: Every handover is a trade-off between competing outcomes - speed, quality, and risk. Moving any one of them can have knock-on effects on the others, and finding the right balance is one of the most interesting analytical problems in the network. Your job is to make those trade-offs visible, model them, and find the levers that move the network in the right direction. You'll run the experiments, design the measurement, and quantify what actually works. Performance Management: Relay already has a framework for measuring courier performance, and it feeds into how work is distributed. The job now is to ensure it drives fleet quality - defining the right behaviours to measure, evaluating the interventions designed to help couriers shift those behaviours, and closing the loop so the framework continuously improves. You'll partner with product, ops and engineering across this work, with the analytics owned by you. Courier-facing analytics: Couriers are the end users of much of this work. You'll think about how performance and rewards are made transparent to them, and you'll run experiments to evaluate whether interventions are actually working for couriers and for Relay. Who Will Thrive in This Role - You're a strong analyst who thinks in systems. You break complex problems into components and know where the real opportunity lies. - You are successful working with high autonomy and are excited to operate in a Product/Programme Manager like capacity, defining the roadmap as well as executing against it. - You care about solving the problem more than which techniques you use. - You love working with smart, motivated people. - You're fluent in SQL. - You're comfortable across the analytical spectrum - designing and reading experiments, building risk scores and segmentation, and shipping descriptive analysis that drives a decision the same week. - You communicate inclusively with non-technical team members. - You love seeing the impact of your work play out in a daily operation. - Bonus: You have experience working on performance management, marketplace quality, operational analytics or another relevant domain. Compensation, Benefits & Workplace - Generous equity, richer than 99% of European startups, with annual top-ups to share Relay’s success. - Private health & dental coverage, so comprehensive you’d need to be a partner at a Magic Circle law firm to match it. - 25 days of holidays - Enhanced parental leave. - Located in Shoreditch, our office set-up enables the kind of in-person interactions that drive impact. We work 4 days on-site, with 1 day remote. - Hardware of your choice. - Extensive perks (gym subsidies, cycle-to-work, Friday office lunch, covered Uber home and dinner for late nights, and more). Who Thrives at Relay? - Aim with Precision: You define problems clearly and measure your impact meticulously. - Play to Win: You chase bold bets, tackle the hard stuff, and view constraints as fuel, not friction. - 1% Better Every Day: You believe that small, consistent improvements lead to exponential growth. You move quickly, deliver results, and learn from every experience. - All In, All the Time: You show up and step up. You take ownership from start to finish and do what it takes to deliver when it counts. - People-Powered Greatness: You invest in your teammates. You give and receive feedback with care and candour. You build trust through high standards and shared success. - Grow the Whole Pie: You seek out win-win solutions for merchants, couriers, and our customers, because when they thrive, so do we. If these resonate, and you combine strong technical fundamentals with entrepreneurial drive, let’s connect. Relay is an equal-opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and fostering a workplace where everyone thrives.
