Software Engineer, Product Experience (Energy Storage)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Remote/Hybrid Available) What is Verse? The race to AI has become the race to power. Every breakthrough in artificial intelligence depends on one thing: access to electricity. But across the country, aging grid infrastructure and years-long interconnection queues are slowing the deployment of the data centers that will power the next generation of innovation. Solving this challenge isn't just about energy—it's about unlocking the future of AI. At Verse, we're building the energy intelligence platform for the AI economy. Our software helps the world's largest energy consumers achieve faster, cheaper, and cleaner power by combining real-time control of energy assets with complete visibility into their energy portfolio. Backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, GV, Coatue, and NVIDIA, and built by pioneers in grid-scale batteries, energy markets, and enterprise software, we're redefining how the world's most ambitious organizations access and manage energy. The Role You will be a member of the technical staff developing product experiences for our Dispatch Intelligence users – customers who want and have battery energy storage systems for additional energy cost savings or faster interconnection times. In this role, you will serve in a “full stack” capacity designing, building, and maintaining frontend and backend components of our energy storage suite of applications. We use Typescript, React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Radix/ShadCN, Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Vitest, and Storybook with Echarts and D3/Observable for data visualization for our frontend, and Cloudflare Pages for hosting and content delivery. We rely on identity and auth platforms like Clerk for sign-in flows. Our backend is written in Go and Python with Postgres/AlloyDB and blob storage for data persistence. Key Responsibilities • Foster a culture and mindset of well-designed systems, test-driven software, and proactive communication with a high degree of transparency, mutual respect, and consideration for teammates • Collaborate closely with product managers, UI/UX designers, and other engineers to develop intuitive, user-friendly Buyer Solutions software experiences • Design, build, test, debug, maintain, and scale user-facing software and closely related components up and down the stack • Integrate frontend components with backend APIs while efficiently rendering and presenting interactive data visualizations • Implement backend APIs, middleware, and integrate these layers with databases • Manage user authentication and authorization, sessions, and tokens using services like Clerk or Auth0 for secure user login systems. • Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability with content delivery networks • Evaluate and recommend new software tools, systems, and architectures as the product evolves What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications) • Customer empathy and obsession to craft quality user experiences • Hands-on experience working in both frontend (e.g. Typescript, React) and backend (e.g. Go, Python) software ecosystems • Ability to translate complex product requirements into functional software, and speak the language of engineers and designers • Commitment to delivering high quality software on time or ahead of schedule while adhering to best software development practices • Continuous obsession for staying informed on contemporary technologies, tools, libraries, services, frameworks, or breakthroughs that could benefit the team • Discipline using generative AI tools in day-to-day work What Will Make You Standout (Preferred Qualifications) • A bachelor’s degree or higher, not necessarily in a STEM field • Senior or Staff level software development talent and up • Proven track record being a technical leader in high-performing product engineering teams • Expert programming skills with Typescript and Go, advanced experience with Python is a big plus • Advanced experience developing in the gRPC + Protocol Buffer ecosystem (we use Buf’s Connect SDK) • Deep knowledge of relational databases, SQL and cloud storage (e.g. GCS or S3) • Experience authoring and maintaining UI kits, design systems, component libraries • Keen sense and natural intuition for UI/UX design principles • Understanding of content delivery networks (CDN) and edge server solutions • Desire to be a generalist throughout the product engineering stack • Cloud-native system design and architecture knowledge, especially with container-based tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) • Technical project management skills in agile, product-focused teams • Willingness and flexibility to operate in high-pressure environments where priorities can easily shift or pivot depending on user need What Makes Verse a Great Place to Work? • We lead with empathy. Empathy for our teammates and our customers is central to who we are. We lift each other up and strive to embody humility, selflessness, and kindness. We promote an emotionally aware attitude and culture by putting our colleagues and customers first. We respect the prior art and acknowledge those who have come before us. We never assume we know everything: every person has something to teach us. • We are open, honest, and transparent. Organizational and institutional trust is essential to tackling the world’s most challenging problems. That trust is built on effective communication with our team, our customers, and other stakeholders. We are always receptive to feedback on how we could do better, and we strive to provide constructive recommendations that help others excel. • We move with balance and precision. Life is a delicate balance between the forces of creation, maintenance, and destruction. We understand that each of these forces must be applied with diligence: When we act, we act carefully and responsibly. Speed, hard work, and perseverance must be accompanied by thoughtfulness and reflection. • We are pursuing a labor of love. We are passionate about renewable energy technology, and we like to dream big. We are disrupting the largest and most expensive machine humanity has ever built – the electricity system. We believe the greatest impact we can have on the climate crisis is through building elegant solutions and exceptional products that delight our customers.
