Workplace Operations Manager

ABOUT BASE Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time. ABOUT THE ROLE The Workplace Operations Manager owns the day-to-day workplace experience at our Austin headquarters. This role keeps the building running, manages the vendors who service it, and delivers the projects that make HQ a better place to work. With your ownership, the rest of the team can focus on their work instead of on the building. This is a high-ownership, high-trust role. You'll be the person employees, vendors and leadership turn to when something at HQ needs to get done, and the person who spots problems before anyone else does. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Own day-to-day operations at HQ, including space planning, cleanliness, supplies, building access and maintenance, and the workplace team at HQ. - Select, manage and hold accountable the facilities, food and service vendors who support HQ. - Run HQ improvement projects from scope to punch list, including lighting, conference rooms and organization. - Manage conference rooms, desk assignments, and tickets and change requests. - Plan and own events and onsite logistics for HQ. - Track and forecast the HQ workplace space needs and vendor spending. - Partner with other members of the Workplace team, IT, and HR. WHAT YOU'LL BRING - 5+ years of experience in workplace or office operations, including ownership of a site of similar size. - Sound judgment and excellent prioritization on what to fix now, what to schedule and what to escalate. - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. - High level of proficiency using project management software, Jira and other workplace tools. - Excited to be working in person and hands-on, from moving furniture to meeting a vendor at the door, with flexibility on hours when the business needs it. - Experience with build-outs and a rapidly expanding company.   ABOUT THE TEAM Workplace at Base runs on the idea that the best offices are the ones people don't have to think about. Supplies are stocked before anyone notices they're low. Guests are greeted before they have to ask. Problems get fixed before they become complaints. That invisibility is the job and it requires a lot of hard work. We believe a great workplace function is proactive, not reactive, anticipating needs instead of responding to tickets. It's consistent and the experience at one site should feel like the experience at every site, even as we add more of them. We are resourceful, most problems don't need a bigger budget or a bigger team, they just need high ownership and execution standards. Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive. OUR VALUES - First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules. - Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing. - Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset. - Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results. - Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information. - Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in. - Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things. DO THE BEST WORK OF YOUR LIFE AT BASE.
