WHOOP is hiring a Research Manager to lead the Distributed Research team which owns large-scale decentralized data collections through Digital WHOOP Labs, powering research and innovation across WHOOP. In this role, you will define the team's strategy, mentor and develop a high-performing team of researchers, and partner closely with cross-functional research partners, Research Program Management, and Research Platform to prioritize work, scale distributed research capabilities, and continuously improve the tools and processes that enable high-quality data collection at scale. Your leadership will help expand WHOOP's ability to generate trusted, actionable data that accelerates scientific discovery, product innovation, and member impact.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of researchers across multiple career levels, fostering technical excellence, career growth, and a high-performing team culture.
- Define and execute the functional strategy for Distributed Research, driving the continued evolution and scaling of distributed research capabilities across WHOOP.
- Partner closely with the Distributed Research Program Manager to prioritize initiatives, allocate resources, balance team capacity, and deliver against organizational priorities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders such as Machine Learning Research, Digital Health, and Performance Science to understand research objectives, scope research initiatives, and ensure successful execution.
- Partner with the Research Platform team to improve the technologies and workflows that support distributed research, leveraging user feedback, operational insights, and evolving business needs to drive continuous improvements in scalability, participant experience, and data quality.
- Monitor operational and team performance metrics, using insights to optimize execution, improve efficiency, and inform strategic decisions across the Distributed Research function.
- Serve as an advocate for distributed research methodologies and survey science, educating cross-functional stakeholders on best practices and helping scale these capabilities across WHOOP.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in remote study management, at-home trials, research operations, clinical research operations, digital health research, UX research, or a related field.
- 2+ years directly managing and developing individual contributors. Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams through organizational growth and ambiguity.
- Experience partnering closely with program management, product, engineering, scientific, or research platform teams to deliver complex cross-functional work.
- Strong understanding of survey science and distributed research methodologies, with the ability to communicate the importance of survey design and other study considerations to diverse audiences.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills.
- Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $130,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
